Criminal Defense
Understanding the Criminal Process in Florida.
At Jauregui Law, I know that facing criminal charges in Florida can be overwhelming. The process is complex, strict, and can feel stacked against you — that’s why having the right defense matters from the very beginning.
The criminal process in Florida begins with an investigation. Law enforcement gathers evidence and determines whether to recommend criminal charges. Once charges are filed, a court hearing is scheduled where witnesses may testify and evidence is presented.
If the court finds sufficient evidence, the accused may be found guilty and sentenced, which can include fines, community service, or prison time, depending on the nature of the crime. Fortunately, the law also provides an appeal process to challenge unfair verdicts.
As your defense attorney, my job is to ensure your rights are protected, your voice is heard, and your case is handled strategically from start to finish. I bring experience, determination, and a deep understanding of Florida criminal law to fight for the best possible outcome in every case.
Protecting Your Rights Every Step of the Way. There is no greater success than avoiding charges altogether.

- Arrest
If charges are filed, you will be arrested. We negotiate a surrender than minimizes exposure and processing time. Many times, we can arrange bond amount in advance allowing you to bail out immediately.
- Bond Hearing
When bond is not automatic, a court hearing is scheduled where witnesses may testify and evidence is presented. We can lower bond amount or obtain a bond on an otherwise nonbondable offense.
- Pretrial Litigation
The road to trial is long. This is where we gather discovery, investigate defenses, and file motions. This is also when we conduct plea negotiations. Is there a path to protecting our client’s future without the gamble of going to trial?
- Trial
If there is no acceptable alternative, your case will be tried in front of a jury. While experience is important at every step of the process, it is paramount in a jury trial. Not only are there rules of procedure, but nothing beats trial experience.
- Sentencing
If the jury finds the accused guilty, then the judge will issue a sentence, which can include fines, community service, or prison time, depending on the nature of the crime.
